Former Site of the Luofang Conference

Located 2 kilometers southeast of Luofang Town in Yushui District, at Chenjia Nao, this site is built in the style of a typical southern Chinese shop from the modern era — a three-bay structure with one central hall and two side wings. The central hall is divided into front and rear rooms. The front room served as the meeting venue at that time, while the rear room was used as accommodation for guards. The left wing was where Mao Zedong lived and worked, and the right wing housed Zhou Yiliu. The building covers an area of 201.47 square meters, with a roof ridge height of 6.75 meters, and remains well-preserved.

In late October 1930, Mao Zedong, Zhu De, Peng Dehuai, and others led the First Red Army Corps from eastern Hunan and western Jiangxi into the area between the Yuan River and Rui Prefecture to carry out operations and prepare for a decisive battle with the enemy. On October 25, the headquarters of the First Red Army Corps relocated from Huangtugang to Yuanqian Village in Luofang. The General Front Committee and the Jiangxi Provincial Committee held an important meeting in a shop at Chenjia Nao, commonly referred to as the “Luofang Conference.” Attendees included members of the General Front Committee, military leaders above the army level such as Mao Zedong, Zhu De, and Peng Dehuai, and Zhou Yiliu, head of the Yangtze Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. On October 26, the conference passed the resolution “On the Current Political Situation and the Tasks of the First Red Army Corps and the Jiangxi Party.” On October 30, the conference decided on the strategic policy of “luring the enemy deep into our territory.” This meeting unified the thinking and actions of the Red Army and the Jiangxi Party, creating the conditions for successfully crushing the enemy’s first “encirclement and suppression” campaign. It was a conference of great historical significance.
