The Battlefield Site of the Northern Expedition Army on Yangtiangang is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.

The Battlefield Site of the Northern Expedition Army on Yangtiangang is located on Yangtiangang. From September 13 to 16, 1926, the Second and Third Armies of the National Revolutionary Army fought against Deng Ruzhuo’s forces of the First Front Army under Sun Chuanfang, commander-in-chief of the Five-Provinces United Army of the Beiyang warlords, with Yangtiangang as the main battlefield. After three days of intense combat, the Northern Expedition Army dealt a major blow to the enemy, killing or capturing more than twenty thousand troops of Deng Ruzhuo’s forces. This marked the first major victory for the Northern Expedition Army since its departure from Guangdong. Communist representative Li Fuchun was involved in the organization and command of the battle. Over 1,500 soldiers and more than 200 participating local farmers sacrificed their lives during the battle.

In 1928, the Jiangxi Provincial Government built the “Monument to the Fallen Soldiers of the Northern Expedition War at Xinyu” at the foot of Yangtiangang. It was destroyed in 1968, but the monument’s base is preserved in the Xinyu City Museum. Currently, the Battlefield Site of the Northern Expedition Army on Yangtiangang includes two sites: Dogbear Slope and Liangshan Brain.
