Former Site of the Shanghai Laboring Women’s Battlefield Service Corps

The Former Site of the Shanghai Laboring Women’s Battlefield Service Corps is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.

The Former Site of the Shanghai Laboring Women’s Battlefield Service Corps is located in Hengbanqiao Village, Zhushan Town, Yushui District. The building was originally a residence dating back to the Qing Dynasty. The Shanghai Laboring Women’s Battlefield Service Corps was established in September 1937. It was formed by Hu Lanqiu, the secretary of He Xiangning, president of the Shanghai Branch of the National Anti-Enemy Comfort Association, in collaboration with the Labor Night School of the Shanghai YMCA.

In April 1939, the Shanghai Laboring Women’s Battlefield Service Corps arrived in Xinyu with the headquarters of the 19th Army Group of the Chinese military, initiating 18 months of anti-Japanese activities in the area. They organized and mobilized the anti-Japanese public, boosted the morale of the Nationalist troops, and helped maintain the united front of cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party.
