Former Site of Fuzhou Zhi She

[No. 101 Baima South Road · 1924 · District-level Cultural Relics Protection Unit] In 1924, poets Weng Xinzǔ, Jiang Fengnian, Zhang Helian, and others established the "Fuzhou Zhi She." In September of the same year, contributors funded the construction of a building on Da Miao Shan to serve as the office for the society and a venue for members to compose and recite poetry.

The site covers an area of 283 square meters, faces south with a north orientation, and is a two-story brick-and-wood structure, 12 meters wide and 8 meters deep. The wall foundation contains three embedded stone steles made of black shale: the "Record of the Construction of the Poetry Building at Zhi She," written by Lin Cang and calligraphed by Xiao Mengfu, measuring 1.29 meters in height and 0.64 meters in width, erected in September 1924 (the 13th year of the Republic of China); the "Stele Record of the Poetry Building at Zhi She," written by Tang Hanbo and calligraphed by Chen Qian, measuring 1.264 meters in height and 0.65 meters in width, erected in September 1924 (the 13th year of the Republic of China); and the "Record of the Poetry Building at Zhi She," written by Chen Yan and calligraphed by Hong Liang, measuring 1.325 meters in height and 0.64 meters in width, erected in September 1930 (the 19th year of the Republic of China). The inscriptions document the establishment of the society, the construction of the poetry building, and activities of the Zhi She.
