Mainland Attractions Appear at Hsinchu Lantern Festival; Fuzhou Promotes Tourism with Discounts

The 2013 Taiwan Lantern Festival, themed around “anime, technology, and humanity,” kicked off with great fanfare in Hsinchu County. Fuzhou, renowned for its lantern-making craftsmanship since ancient times, was also invited by the Hsinchu County Government this year to showcase its most distinctive local lantern works. Shen Yueyang, Deputy Director of the Fuzhou Tourism Bureau, stated that participating in the Hsinchu Lantern Festival is not only to promote cross-strait exchanges but also to fully present Fuzhou’s local characteristics through traditional festivals. This allows Taiwanese visitors to experience the beauty of Fuzhou more deeply while enjoying the lantern displays and guessing lantern riddles.

Fuzhou attracts many tourists with its historic cultural landscapes and its naturally beautiful mountains-and-seas environment. For the 2013 Taiwan Lantern Festival, the city specially aligned with the event’s “anime, technology, and humanity” theme, using lanterns to recreate some of Fuzhou’s most iconic local sights — such as the Three Lanes and Seven Alleys, the White Pagoda, the Black Pagoda, and Shoushan Stone. Additionally, visitors who stop by the Fuzhou pavilion booth from February 24 to March 10 can receive a NT$500 discount voucher for Fuzhou tourism.
