The 2013 Taiwan Lantern Festival, themed around "animation, technology, and culture," kicked off with great fanfare in Hsinchu County. This year, Fuzhou — long renowned for its lantern-making craftsmanship — was also invited by the Hsinchu County Government to showcase its most distinctive local lantern works. Shen Yueyang, Deputy Director of the Fuzhou Tourism Bureau, stated that participating in the Hsinchu Lantern Festival is not only aimed at promoting cross-strait exchanges but also at presenting Fuzhou’s unique local character through this traditional festival. He hopes visitors can better appreciate the beauty of Fuzhou while enjoying the lantern displays and guessing lantern riddles.

Fuzhou attracts many tourists with its historic cultural landmarks and picturesque natural scenery where mountains meet the sea. For the 2013 Taiwan Lantern Festival, the city has aligned with the event's theme of "animation, technology, and culture" by using lanterns to recreate its most iconic local sights — the Three Lanes and Seven Alleys, the White Pagoda, the Black Pagoda, and Shoushan Stone. Additionally, visitors who stop by the Fuzhou pavilion booth from February 24 to March 10 can receive a NT$500 discount voucher for Fuzhou tourism.
