Located at the southern foot of Baofu Mountain in Baofu Village, Baofu Suburb, western Fuzhou, Baofu Temple is a district-level cultural heritage site under protection from the Ming and Qing dynasties. It was originally built in the second year of the Tianjia era during the Chen Dynasty of the Southern Dynasties (561 AD), rebuilt during the Hongwu era of the Ming Dynasty (1368–1398), and renovated in the Qing Dynasty. The temple covers an area of 795 square meters and faces west while sitting to the east. Its main buildings include the mountain gate, the Heavenly King Hall, the Mahavira Hall, the Monkey King Hall, and the Incense Kitchen. The corridors, halls, and courtyards are all paved with stone and surrounded by fireproof walls. The Mahavira Hall has three bays in width and seven columns in depth, featuring a post-and-lintel wooden frame structure with a double-sloped gray-tiled roof and firewalls on both sides. The temple is now in a state of disrepair. In the rear courtyard, there are two cycas trees about 3.7 meters tall with an age of over a thousand years. Inside the temple, there is also a Ming Dynasty-carved statue of the Monkey King Sun Wukong seated in meditation. Beside the temple, there is a stone basin dating back to the Song Dynasty.
