Moss Spring Well

Moss Spring Well is a cultural heritage site protected by the Jin'an District.

Moss Spring Well is located at Longyao at the western foot of Ping Mountain in Fuzhou, also known as Cai Gong Well, Dragon Tongue Spring, or Longyao Well. The Shiquan Temple was built here during the Yuanhe era of the Tang Dynasty. Legend has it that Cai Xiang, a Song Dynasty prefect of Fuzhou, used water from this well to brew tea and inscribed the two characters “Táo Quán” (Moss Spring) on a stone, which is still preserved today. The well is constructed of stone, circular in shape, with an inner diameter of 1.10 meters and a depth of several meters; the well railing was rebuilt in 986 AD, square in shape, with sides of 1 meter and a height of 54 centimeters, built of bricks with cement applied inside and out. The well platform is paved with flagstones and lime concrete. It was designated as a district-level cultural heritage site in 1988.
