Jiuan Bridge

Jiuan Bridge is a cultural heritage site protected by Luoyuan County.

Jiuan Bridge is located in Houyang Natural Village, Huokou Village, Huokou Township. It is also nicknamed "Shrimp Grouper Bridge" due to its resemblance to a shrimp grouper. This stone arch bridge runs east-west, measuring 18.50 meters in length, 3.55 meters in width, with a single span of 10.45 meters. The arch ring is 0.66 meters thick, and the railings are 0.55 meters high and 0.15 meters thick. On the inner side of the southern railing, the three characters “Jiuan Bridge” are inscribed in regular script at the center. On the eastern end of the bridge, on the left side near the farmland, there are six stone steles commemorating the bridge’s construction. These record the origin of the project, the lead donors, as well as the names and contribution amounts of other sponsors.

Built during the Jiaqing era of the Qing Dynasty (1796–1820 AD).

During the War of Resistance against Japan, local villagers spontaneously dismantled the bluestone slabs from the bridge deck to delay the advance of Japanese troops. The bridge was later restored.

During the Cultural Revolution, the six stone steles near the farmland on the eastern end of the bridge were buried in the fields. In December 2001, Jiuan Bridge was designated as a cultural heritage site protected by Luoyuan County.
