Former Residence of Lin Keyi

The former residence of Lin Keyi is a cultural relic protection unit of Luoyuan County and a classic red tourism site.

The former residence of Lin Keyi is located at No. 52 Beida Road, Fengshan Town, Luoyuan County, adjacent to the old northern city wall of Luoyuan. It is a Qing Dynasty-era wooden residential structure with two side wings and two courtyards, featuring a total of four courtyards in the front, back, left, and right. The main hall has a post-and-lintel beam frame, with a width of six bays and five rooms, plus a four-bay lean-to, covering a construction area of 1,400 square meters.

Built during the Qing Dynasty, it was owned by the Lin family of Luoyuan’s North Gate. Lin Keyi (1893–1928), an early member of the Chinese Communist Party, was born here. In the 17th year of the Republic of China (1928), Lin Ruiqi of the Lin family converted the main hall of the residence into the Meiwén Photography Studio, the first photography studio in Luoyuan. This building is now a county-level cultural relic protection unit of Luoyuan County.

Lin Keyi (1893–1928), originally named Ruiding and styled Keyi, was a native of Beimen Street, Chengguan, Luoyuan County.

In the 5th year of the Republic of China (1916), after graduating from a specialized law and politics school, Lin traveled to Japan in pursuit of truths to save the nation and its people. He studied successively at Waseda University and Meiji University. During his time in Japan, he read extensively on Marxist theory and progressive publications, published articles such as “On the Japanese Disrupting Peace in Southeast Asia,” strongly condemning Japan’s invasion of China and the atrocities of the Beiyang warlord government, and participated in protest activities by Chinese students in Japan.
