Dongyue Temple

Located in Yuefeng Village, Taijiang Township, Fuzhou City, Dongyue Temple was originally built during the Changxing era of the Later Tang Dynasty. It was initially the Taishan Temple of the Eastern Palace of the Min Kingdom. The temple was expanded during the Dazhong Xiangfu era of the Song Dynasty (1008–1016), rebuilt in the Chongzhen era of the Ming Dynasty, and renovated in the mid-Qing Dynasty. Most of the temple structures have been destroyed, and now only the Niangniang Palace and the Xuechi Hall remain—two halls with a total floor area of 370 square meters. The Niangniang Palace has a width of three bays and a depth of five bays, featuring a post-and-lintel structure with wooden framework and a double-sloped roof. Fire walls are installed on both sides, and stone railings are set up in front of the palace. The Xuechi Hall was restored and rebuilt in 2008. It consists of two sections—front and rear—with a stone-carved “Xuechi” (Blood Pool) beneath the stage. Two stone pillars on the stage are original. The hall houses Ming and Qing dynasty murals that were peeled from the original walls. To the east of the Xuechi Hall, remnants of the original Senluo Hall (also part of Nengren Temple) can also be found.
