Chen Bolang Archway

The Chen Bolang Archway is a cultural relic protection unit of Fuqing City.

Located in Xiting Village, Yangxia Township, it was built in the sixth year of the Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty (1527). Chen Bolang, courtesy name Zhizhi, was a successful candidate in the imperial examination of the 17th year of the Hongzhi reign, later appointed as a censor and supervisor of education in both the northern and southern capitals. The local community erected the archway to commemorate his achievements. The structure has four pillars and three gates, with a pavilion-style design that stands 4 meters high and 3.8 meters wide. It is exquisitely crafted from premium granite. The front of the archway’s plaque is inscribed in intaglio regular script with the words “Two Capitals’ Literary Authority,” while the back is inscribed with “Imperial Honor for the Upright Historian.” In November 1987, it was designated as a county-level cultural relic protection unit.
