Luyi Library

Luyi Library is a cultural relic protection unit of Fuzhou City.

Luyi Library is located at No. 13 Maiyuan Road, Cangshan District (at the intersection of Maiyuan Road and Lixin Road). Built in the 33rd year of the Republic of China (1944), it covers an area of 369.2 square meters. The structure is a modern building with a single-story front section and a two-story rear section, featuring a Victorian-era architectural style.

The building was originally a two-story brick-and-wood residential house. In the 33rd year of the Republic of China (1944), Jiang Xiuqing and others established the library in memory of Huang Zhan Yun. That October, Fuzhou was occupied for the second time, and construction of the library was suspended until the city was liberated in May of the 34th year of the Republic of China (1945). The library was officially completed and opened in July of the 34th year of the Republic of China (1945).

In the 1960s, the library was used as the “Overseas Chinese Kindergarten.” During the Cultural Revolution, it was occupied by the Cangshan Post and Telecommunications Bureau. In 1991, it underwent renovation and became the office space for the Cangshan Yantai Painting Academy and the Cangshan District Federation of Literary and Art Circles. It was designated as a district-level cultural relic protection unit in 1988.

Across Lixin Road from Luyi Library lies the prestigious Fuzhou school Maiding Primary School, which originated as the “Duqing Primary School” founded by Huang Zhan Yun in 1926. A stone stele still stands in the primary school, erected by Jiang Xiuqing and others in memory of Huang Zhan Yun.

The building faces south with a slight westward orientation, covering an area of 369.2 square meters. Originally a Western-style double-story brick-and-wood structure, it features a white-brick wall approximately 1.8 meters high. Inside, there were a reading room, living room, office, bedroom, and basement. During the Cultural Revolution, it was used by the Cangshan Post and Telecommunications Bureau. It was renovated in 1991. Currently, the library’s reading hall serves as the storefront for the Fuzhou Yantai Painting Academy, while the upper floor houses the offices of the Fuzhou Cangshan Federation of Literary and Art Circles. The building remains well-preserved.

Cangqian Subdistrict: Cangqian Subdistrict is located in the central part of Cangshan District, Fuzhou City, Fujian Province. To the east, it connects to Puding in Xiadu Subdistrict; to the north, it borders the Min River and links to Guan Jing Road in Linjiang Subdistrict; to the west, it adjoins Longtanjiao in Shangdu Subdistrict; and to the south, it meets Jinxing Village of Cangshan Township in the suburban area. The subdistrict spans an area of 0.991 square kilometers, has over 12,000 households, and a population of nearly 30,000. The subdistrict office is located at Building G, Xinlong Shengshi, No. 3 Juhe Road, overseeing ten neighborhood committees: Longfeng, Meiwu, Maiyuan, Zhenxing, Gongyuan, Wanchun, Laogong, Xingyuan, Limin, and Hangxing.
