Antai Bridge

In the first year of the Tianfu era of the Tang Dynasty (901), Wang Shenzhi built the Luocheng (outer city), expanding southward to Lishemen (Convenient Crossing Gate). A bridge was constructed over the moat outside the gate and was later named Antai Bridge. This stone arch bridge has a single span, measuring 11 meters in width and 6 meters in length. Both banks of the bridge were built with neat, dressed stone slabs. According to *Records of Scenic Spots in Rongcheng* (*Rongcheng Jingwu Kao*): “In the early years of the Tianfu era of the Tang Dynasty, Lishemen served as the southern gate of Luocheng, bustling with residents...”

Antai Bridge

Antai Bridge is a cultural heritage site protected at the municipal level in Fuzhou.

In the first year of the Tianfu era of the Tang Dynasty (901), Wang Shenzhi built the Luocheng (outer city), expanding southward to Lishemen (Convenient Crossing Gate). A bridge was constructed over the moat outside the gate and was later named Antai Bridge. This stone arch bridge has a single span, stretching 11 meters across and 6 meters in width. Both banks of the bridge were built with neat, dressed stone slabs. According to *Records of Scenic Spots in Rongcheng*: “In the early years of the Tianfu era of the Tang Dynasty, Lishemen served as the southern gate of Luocheng, bustling with people and boats, lined with taverns and song towers on both banks, with flutes and pipes echoing from the shade of willows and banyan leaves.” During the Xuanhe era of the Song Dynasty (1119–1125), when Lu Zao served as the prefect of Fuzhou, he built a pavilion on the bridge, which soon collapsed. The current bridge deck has been widened to 10 meters and covered with cement, while the original stone structure remains beneath.

In 1992, it was designated as part of the third batch of municipal-level cultural heritage sites in Fuzhou under the name “Seven Bridges of Qionghe.”

Antai Subdistrict: Located in the southern part of Gulou District, Antai Subdistrict lies within the historical southern area of Fuzhou’s ancient city and is named after the historic Antai Bridge within its jurisdiction. It stretches from Wuyi Square in the east to Baima River in the west, borders East-West River of Chating Street in the south, and neighbors Antai River in the north. Covering an area of 1.8 square kilometers, the subdistrict administers 17 neighborhood committees: Fuzhong, Guizhi, Longpu, Wushan, Daoshan, Nanmen, Jiayang, Baita, Madao, Shengmiao, Xinquan, Fahai, Douzhong, Douxi, Xiyinglei, Jiufu’an, and Zhuzifang.
