Huai'an Yamen

Huai'an Yamen is a cultural relic protection unit of Fuzhou City.

Huai'an Yamen is located by the river in Huaian Community, Jianxin Town, Cangshan District. It served as the government office of Huai'an County from the second year of the Xianping era of the Song Dynasty (999) to the twelfth year of the Wu era of the Ming Dynasty (1379). In the eighth year of the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty (1580), Huai'an County was abolished, and its administrative seat was discontinued. During the Qing Dynasty, it was repurposed as the Huai'an Relay Station and was rebuilt as a two-courtyard residential building with a flush gable roof and through-tenon wooden framing. The building covers an area of 1,092 square meters and faces south. Both the front and rear courtyards are paved with neat flagstones. The surrounding walls of the yamen have been destroyed, but their foundations remain, standing 0.9 meters high and 0.75 meters thick, with a perimeter of 150 meters. It is a district-level cultural relic protection unit. This yamen is currently the only remaining yamen site in Cangshan District.

The county yamen building has three surviving courtyards, all of wooden construction, with a width of 18.2 meters and a depth of 60 meters, covering an area of 1,092 square meters. The first courtyard is the front hall, which is five bays wide and four bays deep, featuring a through-tenon wooden frame and a single-eave flush gable roof. The first courtyard is paved with neat flagstones. The second courtyard is the main hall, also featuring a through-tenon wooden frame, three bays wide, seven bays deep with a corridor, and a single-eave flush gable roof. The middle courtyard is paved with block stones, and there is an ancient well in the center. The third courtyard features a through-tenon wooden frame, five bays wide and four bays deep, with a hip-and-gable roof. The rear courtyard is adjacent to Shijue Mountain and serves as the back garden. No side rooms are found in the yamen. The surrounding walls were built with a combination of brick and rammed earth, but have collapsed. The stone foundations remain, with a remaining height of 0.90 meters, thickness of 0.75 meters, and a perimeter of about 150 meters.
