Fuzhou Guanyin Bridge

Fuzhou Guanyin Bridge is a cultural relic protection unit of Fuzhou City.

Guanyin Bridge is situated to the west of the confluence of Antai River and Wenzao River (the remnant of Da Hangqiao River) at the west gate of Gulou District, Fuzhou. It connects to Wenzao North Road in the north and leads to Yili in the south. Originally named Hongqiao, according to *A Brief Archaeological Account of Rongcheng*, it was renamed Guanyin Bridge because a statue of Guanyin (the Goddess of Mercy) was enshrined nearby. This single-arch stone bridge is 8.50 meters long, 5.10 meters wide, and has a span of 5.00 meters. The bridge deck is paved with 15 stone slabs, featuring four stone steps at the southern end and two at the northern end. There are six stone parapet panels on both sides of the bridge (with lengths of 2.4 meters and 1.41 meters respectively). On the middle panel of the western side, the three characters “Guanyin Bridge” are engraved, each measuring 0.39 meters in diameter; the eastern side panel is inscribed with “Built in the 13th Year of the Chenghua Reign of the Ming Dynasty (1477).” The bridge has four pairs of balusters, each topped with an upward-facing lotus design, standing 0.85 meters high.

According to inscriptions on the bridge’s pillars, it was built in the 13th Year of the Chenghua Reign of the Ming Dynasty (1477 AD). It underwent renovations in the 18th Year of the Daoguang Reign (1838 AD) and the 33rd Year of the Guangxu Reign (1907 AD) of the Qing Dynasty.

In 1992, it was designated as part of the Third Batch of Municipal Cultural Relic Protection Units in Fuzhou under the name “Seven Bridges of Qiong River.”

Nanjie Subdistrict: Located in the central-western part of Gulou District, Nanjie Subdistrict is bordered by Bayi 7th North Road to the east, adjacent to Dongjie Subdistrict; it faces the foot of Wushan Mountain to the south, neighboring Antai Subdistrict; to the west, it extends to Xiaoliu and Henan Xincun, connecting with Hongshan Town; and to the north, it is bounded by Hujie Road, Xian South Road, and Yangqiao Road, neighboring Huada Subdistrict and Guxi Subdistrict. It covers an area of 1.56 square kilometers, with 16,000 households and a population of about 50,000. The subdistrict office is located at No. 28 Huangxiang. In 2000, the area had 338 collective enterprises and 1,147 individual businesses.
