Former Residence of He Zhen'dai

The former residence of He Zhen'dai is a cultural heritage site protected by Fuzhou City.

The former residence of He Zhen'dai is located at No. 17 Daguanli, facing north with walls on all sides, and consists of two courtyards. Upon entering the gate, there is a corridor and an atrium. The first courtyard hall is three bays wide and two bays deep, with a double-sloped roof and a post-and-lintel wooden structure. It is divided into front and rear halls by a screen door. The house faces south but is built in a reverse orientation (facing north). The front courtyard is planted with flowering trees and features the tomb epitaph of He Meisheng.

Built during the Jiaqing era of the Qing Dynasty, it was renovated during the Guangxu era and the early years of the Republic of China. The original builders are unknown.

After He Zhen'dai purchased the residence, it remained inhabited by the He family.

It was designated for protection in 1991.

After the renovation of the Three Lanes and Seven Alleys, the He family moved out.

It is now a municipal-level cultural heritage site protected by Fuzhou City.

He Zhen'dai

(1867–1952)

Styled Meisheng, also known as Xinyu, Juelu, and Yueming; in his later years, he called himself Meisou. A native of Houguan County, his former residence is located on Xianta Road. In the 23rd year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty (1897), he passed the imperial examination as a licentiate. He failed the metropolitan examination three times. After the imperial examination system was abolished, he was hired by Shen Yuting, the Jiangxi Provincial Administration Commissioner, as a clerk. After the Xinhai Revolution, he returned to Fuzhou with Chen Yan. In the 4th year of the Republic of China (1915), he was commissioned by Fujian Governor Xu Shiyin to revise the Chronicles of West Lake, serving as the chief editor. Nanjie Subdistrict: Located in the central-western part of Gulou District. It borders Dongjie Subdistrict to the east along Bayi 7th North Road, neighbors Antai Subdistrict to the south at the foot of Wushan Mountain, connects to Hongshan Town to the west via Xiaoliu and Henan New Village, and adjoins Huada Subdistrict and Guxi Subdistrict to the north along Hujie Road, Xian South Road, and Yangqiao Road.
