Former Residence of Zhang Jing

Located in Wenru Alley, Gulou District, Fuzhou City, and built during the Jiajing era of the Ming Dynasty. It faces south and consists of two courtyards. The front courtyard is five bays wide and seven columns deep, featuring a post-and-lintel wooden frame structure with reduced columns. The rear courtyard is also five bays wide but nine columns deep. Currently, apart from the wooden framework, other wing rooms, doors, and windows have been renovated, and the two side buildings to the east and west have also been rebuilt as new houses. In 1992, it was designated for protection by the municipal government.

Zhang Jing, courtesy name Tingyi and pseudonym Banzhou, was a native of Hongtang Township, Houguan (now Fuzhou City), Fujian Province. He was an anti-Wokou general and national hero of the mid-Ming Dynasty. Born in 1492 during the Hongzhi era of the Ming Dynasty, his father, Zhang Hai, came from a poor and fatherless family and lived with his mother, Lady Cai, at her maternal home. Since the maternal family had no heirs, both Zhang Hai and Zhang Jing adopted the Cai surname. It was only after Zhang Jing achieved success and fame that he resumed the use of the Zhang surname.

From a young age, Zhang Jing diligently studied the classics and history. As he grew up, he became tall and imposing, with both literary talent and military strategy. In the 12th year of the Zhengde era (1517), he passed the imperial examination and was appointed as the magistrate of Jiaxing in Zhejiang. Nanjie Subdistrict: Nanjie Subdistrict is located in the central-western part of Gulou District. To the east, it borders Dongjie Subdistrict along Bayi 7th North Road; to the south, it neighbors Antai Subdistrict at the foot of Wushi Mountain; to the west, it extends to Xiaoliu and Henan Xincun, connecting with Hongshan Town; and to the north, it is adjacent to Huajie Subdistrict and Guxi Subdistrict, bounded by Hujie Road, Xian South Road, and Yangqiao Road.
