Huangu Kiln Site

The Huangu Kiln Site is a cultural heritage site protected by the Fuzhou municipal government.

The Huangu Kiln Site is located in the areas of Ai and Banqiao villages in Huangu Town, Fuzhou, comprising 36 kilns mainly distributed on Xincuo Mountain in Banqiao, as well as at Houmen Mountain, Chengli Ping, and several nearby hills in Aishiyou (ài yòu) Village. Stretching approximately 1.7 kilometers from north to south, it is said to have included 36 kilns. The *Houguan Local Chronicles* records: “Aishiyou has ancient relics of bowl kilns, with about a hundred households, whose residents are surnamed He, Deng, Chi, among others.” In 1956, during the construction of a simple road, kiln remains were discovered, confirming the historical accounts of bowl kilns in the chronicles. The accumulation layers at the kiln site are 1 to 5.8 meters high and 30 meters wide. Two remnants of arched kiln beds have been found, which were constructed with bricks measuring 28×18×5 cm. Over the years, excavated artifacts have mainly included kiln tools such as saggars, spacers, pillars, and support rings, as well as various daily-use utensils. Collected samples include bowls, pots, basins, jars, bottles, plates, stoves, boxes, lids, lamps, cup stands, and pouring vessels, with bowls being the most common. Glazes are primarily celadon, supplemented by yellow glaze, with some white glaze and a small amount of black glaze. Decorative techniques include incised patterns, stamped designs, and carved motifs. Decorative elements feature lotus flowers, chrysanthemums, string patterns, carved lines, and lotus petals. These items have been identified as mainly from the Song Dynasty, with some from the Yuan Dynasty.

Designated as a municipal-level cultural heritage site in 1983.
