Hongtang Zhang Jing Ancestral Hall
Hongtang Zhang Jing Ancestral Hall is a cultural relic protection unit of Fuzhou City.
Hongtang Zhang Jing Ancestral Hall is located in Hongtang Community, Jianxin Town, Cangshan District, and is a memorial hall dedicated to Zhang Jing, a renowned anti-Wokou general of the Ming Dynasty. Originally built in the 28th year of the Wanli era (1600) during the Ming Dynasty and renovated in the 1st year of the Jiaqing era (1796) during the Qing Dynasty, the site covers a total area of 592 square meters and consists of a main hall, corridors, the Wenchang Pavilion, and a courtyard. The main hall has a double-sloped roof and a post-and-lintel timber frame with reduced columns, spanning three bays in width and seven bays in depth, with surrounding corridors. The left and right wing rooms have been rebuilt in brick-concrete structure, and the firewalls have also been modified. After 1949, the ancestral hall was used as a grain processing factory. During periods such as the Great Leap Forward, the building underwent multiple alterations, resulting in severe damage. It was designated as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit in 1992.

Zhang Jing, courtesy name Tingyi, art name Banzhou, was a native of Hongtang Township, Houguan (now Fuzhou), Fujian. He was a mid-Ming Dynasty general who fought against the Wokou and is regarded as a national hero. Born in 1492 during the Hongzhi era of the Ming Dynasty, his father, Zhang Hai, came from a poor and fatherless family and returned with his mother, Lady Cai, to her parental home. Since the maternal family had no heirs, both Zhang Hai and Zhang Jing adopted the Cai surname. Zhang Jing reclaimed the Zhang surname after achieving success and fame.
From an early age, Zhang Jing diligently studied the classics and history. As he grew up, he had a tall and imposing stature, and possessed both literary talent and military strategy. In the 12th year of the Zhengde era (1517), he passed the imperial examination and was appointed as the magistrate of Jiaxing, Zhejiang.
