Wubridge

Wubridge is a cultural relic protection unit of Fuzhou City.

Wubridge

Located on Hepu in Shangqi Village, Gaishan Town, Cangshan District, it was first built in the fourth year of the Yuanyou era of the Song Dynasty (1089). Constructed with stone beams, the bridge is 34 meters long and 3.52 meters wide, running from north to south. It has four piers and five spans of unequal length. The two southern spans have been silted up, leaving two piers and three spans. The bridge deck is now made up of four sections with five stone slabs, and the middle pier section is tilted. The piers are boat-shaped, with five layers of corbelled stone projections at the top, upon which the stone beams are laid. The bridge columns bear inscriptions such as “Huang Shiba Niang,” though most other carvings have become largely illegible due to wear. The north side of the bridge railing is formed by six interlocking panels, bearing the inscription “Ancient Site Wubridge.” The south side railing consists of nine interlocking panels, with the inscription “Fragrance of Osmanthus and Orchid.” The approach ramp was originally a set of steps but has now been modified into a slope. In August 1983, it was designated as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit.
