Carvings on Chengmen Mountain
Located on the Flying Rock atop Chengmen Mountain in Chengmen Village, Chengmen Town, Cangshan District, 500 meters to the southwest lies the Chengmen Central Primary School. The carvings were created within a niche carved out of the base stone beneath a wind-blown rock. The niche contains four relief sculptures: the King of the Underworld (Dizang), the Sage of Sizhou, and two attendants. The King of the Underworld is seated in the lotus position on a lotus pedestal, holding a Buddhist staff. He measures 0.74 meters in height and 0.41 meters in width. The Sage of Sizhou is 0.71 meters tall and 0.34 meters wide, while the attendants are 0.61 meters and 0.19 meters tall respectively. On both sides are inscribed large characters reading “Made by Liang Quan in the Renwu Year of Shaoxing (1162).” The pedestal of this rock also bears an inscription reading “Stone from the tenth day of the first month of the fifth year of Yuanyou (1082).”
Designated as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit in August 1983.
These stone carvings provide physical reference material for understanding and studying the local history and religious culture.
