Yuping Mountain Villa is a cultural heritage site protected at the municipal level in Fuzhou.

Yuping Mountain Villa

Located in Xiayicun, Gaishan Township, Cangshan District, it was the former residence of Ye Dazhuang, a poet and former prefect of Pizhou during the Qing Dynasty. Built around Yuping Mountain, the villa covers an area of over 10,000 square meters and has a grand scale. Originally consisting of more than 20 houses, it featured fish ponds and rockeries, giving it the ambiance of a classical garden. After Ye Dazhuang’s death, the family fortunes declined, and the villa was divided up, with some houses already destroyed and others modified. The best-preserved structure today is the You Family Residence in the southern hills (belonging to a timber merchant and descendants of You Le’yong, owner of the large You Family Mansion in Fengzhai). This house is built with a brick-and-wood structure and consists of a porch, lean-to rooms, a central courtyard, a main hall, wing rooms, and a rear garden, covering a total area of 1,120 square meters. The main block (comprising the main hall and adjacent wing rooms) faces five bays in width and four bays in depth, featuring a post-and-lintel wooden frame with reduced timber elements, a double-sloped roof, and fireproof walls on both sides. The wing rooms are two-story structures. The eaves, columns, and front porch of the main hall are all made of nanmu wood. The gate wall is constructed from blue bricks in a fair-faced finish, topped with a parapet resembling crenellations. The rear garden is adorned with rugged rockeries, oddly-shaped stones, and blooming flowers and plants, creating a picturesque scene. The entire layout of the residence is symmetrical, exquisitely designed and elegant in style.

Designated as a municipal-level cultural relics protection unit in 1983.
