Wenshi Da Wang Temple is a cultural heritage site protected by Fuzhou City.

Wenshi Da Wang Temple is located near Wenshi Village in Rixi Township, Beifeng District, Fuzhou. The current temple structure dates back to the Qing Dynasty, though the exact time of its initial construction is unknown. The temple faces south and is built with earth and wood. It measures 16.6 meters in width and 24 meters in depth. The temple complex consists of the main hall, a front courtyard (tiānbìng), a stage, and side chambers on the left and right. The main hall has four bays in width and three bays in depth, featuring a post-and-lintel wooden frame and a double-sloped roof, with fire walls on both sides and inner shrines. In front of the main hall lies a front courtyard. The stage is built between the gate tower and the front courtyard, measuring 7.1 meters in length, 6.2 meters in width, and nearly 2 meters in height. Its four sides are exquisitely decorated with carvings of figures and floral reliefs, and the caisson ceiling is ornate and beautiful. The side chambers on either side of the stage are simple and rustic. Ink inscriptions preserved on the wooden boards of the side chambers document the performance times and play titles of some opera troupes that performed here. For example: “On the 26th day of the third month of the sixth year of the Guangxu reign, the Xingle Troupe performed for one day.” “In the 26th year of the Guangxu reign, the Guyi Batai Troupe from the ancient town arrived here. The opening show was ‘The Precious Pagoda,’ followed by ‘The Three Treasures,’ then ‘The Hall of the Three Officials,’ next ‘The Lost Jade Ring,’ and fifth ‘Ren’…” “Xianyangli Lvxing Opera Society, known as Dazhong, performed during the day: ‘Chen Tang Pass’ and ‘Zheng Yuanhe’; at night: ‘Gaoping Pass’ and ‘The Legend of Ji Gong’; on the fifteenth day: ‘The Great Heavenly Official,’ ‘Taking the Elephant Gall,’ ‘The Mirror of Nüwa,’ and at night ‘The Butterfly Cup’…” “New performances in areas such as Xingu Sai Zhou, Yuehou, Luoyuan, Gutian, Ningde, and Hui’an included dozens of plays, providing valuable material for the study of Fujian’s theatrical history.”
