The Jiufeng Cliff Carvings are a cultural relic protection unit of Fuzhou City.

Located behind Jiufeng Temple on Jiufeng Mountain in Jin'an District, there are four sections of carvings, all in regular script, two of which are inscriptions by Wei Jie, a Confucian scholar and merchant from the Qing Dynasty.

Wei Jie’s poetic inscription faces south, is written in regular script, spans nine vertical lines, and features characters approximately 10 cm in size. The text reads:

The mountain is called Mini, with nine peaks surrounding it like children and grandchildren. Meeting every day, we grow familiar, joyful and delighted yet saying nothing. Ten years ago I came here, where firewood gatherers’ flames damaged this famous mountain. Now, aged and decrepit at eighty, I smile as the Buddha has returned once more.

Wei Jie’s large-character inscription also faces south. It is in regular script, spans three vertical lines, with main text characters about 48 cm in size and accompanying inscription characters about 9 cm in size. The text reads:

Lofty as the heavens

Your humble servant Wei Jie

Next to the site of the mountain gate of Jiufeng Temple, there are still two sections of cliff carvings remaining: the Turtle-Snake Ridge large-character inscription and the Cold Cottage Rock large-character inscription. The Turtle-Snake Ridge large-character inscription faces east. The cliff carving is 75 cm high and 50 cm wide. It is in regular script, with characters 19 cm high and 15 cm wide. The text reads:

The Cold Cottage Rock large-character inscription is on the same rock face as the Turtle-Snake Ridge large-character inscription, also facing east. The cliff carving is 55 cm high and 40 cm wide. It is in regular script, with characters about 20 cm in size. The text reads:

There are patterned engravings on the rock surface; whether they constitute rock paintings remains to be studied. Local legend says that when Zhu Yuanzhang visited Jiufeng Temple, he slept on this rock. Upon waking, he drew his sword and carved the stone, leaving behind an engraved section 210 cm high and 220 cm wide.

Shoushan Township: Shoushan Township is located in the northern part of Fuzhou city proper, about 7 kilometers up the mountain from the National Forest Park. In August 2004, it merged with Lingtou Township. After the merger, the total area is 170.74 square kilometers, with a total population of 12,177, covering 22 administrative villages. Shoushan Township is a typical mountainous township, with an altitude of around 1,000 meters. Its average annual temperature is 5–7°C lower than that of Fuzhou city proper, and its forest coverage rate is as high as 89%.
