The Tomb of Shen Baozhen is a cultural relic protection unit of Fuzhou City.

The Tomb of Shen Baozhen, a cultural relic protection unit of Fuzhou City, is located at the southern foot of Huofeng Mountain in Meiting Village, Guoguang Community, Hongshan Town, Gulou District, Fuzhou City, Fujian Province.

The Tomb of Shen Baozhen was built in the fifth year of the Guangxu reign during the Qing Dynasty (1879). It covers an area of 230 square meters, faces south, and is constructed from rammed earth. The structure is front-square and rear-arc, with a plane shape resembling a “ruyi” (scepter). There are four layers of tomb terraces, measuring 10.9 meters in width and 20.5 meters in depth. The mound is raised, shaped like an inverted cauldron. In front of the mound stands a tombstone, 0.85 meters high and 0.60 meters wide, inscribed with Shen Baozhen’s official titles and the names of Shen Baozhen and his wife, among others. A pair of lion sculptures made of rammed earth flank the tombstone. The altar skirt is adorned with carved animal reliefs, and the tomb pillars are inscribed with couplets. In front of the tomb stands a granite stele with the following inscription in regular script: “The Imperial Qing Dynasty’s Honored Advisor Shen Danlin, together with his wife Lady Lin, their eldest son Youdan who held the title of Circuit Intendant and served as the Prefect of Jiujiang, their eldest daughter-in-law Lady Lin, their second son…” Lion sculptures made of rammed earth are placed on both sides of the stele. The tomb pillars are inscribed with the couplet: “People remember the nine springs following Wu Zixu; my body lies half-buried, yet my spirit…”

In 1975, the tomb was relocated due to land requisition. In December 1988, the Fuzhou Cultural Relics Management Committee moved the remains back and fully restored the original tomb.

In 1992, the Fuzhou Municipal People’s Government designated it as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit.
