Yishan Courtyard

Yishan Courtyard is a cultural heritage site protected by Fuzhou City.

Yishan Courtyard is located in Yishan, Tingjiang Township, Fuzhou. Its exact date of establishment is unknown. It faces south with its back to the north and overlooks the Min River. It was renovated in the 11th year of the Qianlong reign during the Qing Dynasty (1746) and expanded in the 5th year of the Tongzhi reign (1866), covering an area of 906 square meters. Hall, Guanyin Pavilion, Sanbao Hall, White Horse Temple, and Yiyi Studio. The Sanbao Hall is three bays wide and two bays deep, featuring a post-and-lintel wooden frame and a double-sloped roof. A stone stele is embedded in the courtyard wall, inscribed with: “The newly built Shrine of the Heavenly Queen and the Three Sages. The Vice Envoy for the Enfeoffment of Ryukyu, Interior Clerk Yu Guangjia from Changlu, donated 300 taels of his salary. This stele was erected in the 5th year of the Tongzhi reign of the Great Qing, in the cyclical year of Bingyin, mid-summer.” During both the Ming and Qing dynasties, the enfeoffment envoy ships sailing from Fuzhou to the Ryukyu Kingdom would dock here for worship before setting sail. It was designated as a municipal-level cultural heritage site in 1983.

The Vice Envoy, Inner Cabinet Secretary, and Changlu Yu Gongzhan Guangjia donated 300 taels of silver from his salary. "This stele was erected in the mid-summer of the year Bingyin during the fifth year of the Tongzhi reign of the Great Qing (1866)." During the Ming and Qing dynasties, the tribute envoy ships traveling from Fuzhou to the Ryukyu Kingdom all anchored here for ceremonies before setting sail. It was designated as a municipal cultural relics protection unit in 1983.

Tingjiang Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Mawei District, Fuzhou. It is a well-known hometown of overseas Chinese. In 1958, Tingjiang Commune was established, changed to a township in 1984, and upgraded to a town in 1989. Located on the northern shore of the Min River estuary, it is 28 kilometers from downtown Fuzhou. The town covers an area of 106.7 square kilometers and has a population of 34,000. It administers 19 village committees including Changan, Dongqi, Yingyu, Xianglu, Changbing, Dongjie, Xiangyang, Aoxi, Hushan, Shengmei, Tingtou, Xibian, Hongtang, Min’an, Dongsheng, Kangban, Qianyang, Baimei, and Niuxiang, as well as 2 neighborhood committees in Tingtou and Min’an.
