Former Residence of Lin Ruchu

The former residence of Lin Ruchu is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

The former residence of Lin Ruchu, commonly known as Wei Ya, is the last section along the main street of Shuixilin. It was the home of Lin Ruchu, the eldest grandson of Lin Chunze, and is also called “Qie Xian Tang.”

Lin Ruchu (1543–1623), courtesy name Daomao, art name Bilu, was a native of Houguan County, Fujian (now Fuzhou, Fujian). He became a Jinshi (advanced scholar) in the 44th year of the Jiajing reign (1565) and was appointed as an official in the Ministry of Justice. He later served as an education intendant in Guangdong, where he was known for appreciating talent and nurturing many scholars. He eventually rose to the position of Minister of Works. He retired in May of the 47th year of the Wanli reign (1619) and passed away in the 3rd year of the Tianqi reign (1623) at the age of 81. His collected works are titled “Collected Writings of Bilu Hall.”

Nanyu Town: Nanyu Town is located in the southern part of Minhou County, at the foot of Qishan Mountain and on the western bank of the Dazhangxi Stream. It faces Nantong Township across the Zhangxi Stream to the east, looks toward the Nantai Island of Fuzhou to the northeast, borders Getangqian Township of Yongtai County to the southwest, and connects to Shangjie Town to the north. It covers an area of 170.5 square kilometers. The town administers 23 administrative villages and one neighborhood committee, with a population of 56,305 residents in 16,205 households as of the year 2000. The town government is located in Nanqi Village.

The town is named Nanyu (literally “South Isle”) because the Jinxi Stream runs through it, with the southern bank being Nanyu and the northern bank being Beiyu (also called Shuixi).
