Luozhou Kuiguang Pavilion
Luozhou Kuiguang Pavilion is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.
Luozhou Kuiguang Pavilion is located to the east of the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall in Dianqian Village, Luozhou Town, Cangshan District. Also known as the Wenchang Pavilion, it was first built in the mid-Ming Dynasty as a place where the Chen family clan leaders of Luozhou worshipped the God of Literature (Kuixing) to pray for their descendants’ academic success and success in the imperial examinations. Later renamed “Kuiguang Pavilion,” it served as a study hall for the Chen family’s children and was one of the four most renowned study halls in the ancient Luozhou area.
The structure faces southwest and covers an area of 364 square meters. It consists of two courtyards, with components including a gate wall, a screen door, a front courtyard, a front corridor, a front hall, a middle courtyard, a middle corridor, a moon terrace, a main hall, and a rear courtyard. The entire complex is enclosed by fireproof gable walls and features a hip-and-gable roof with a mixed timber frame of raised beams and through-tenons. The front hall is three bays wide and five bays deep, with corridors at both the front and rear. At the back of the middle corridor, there are bell and drum towers on the left and right. In front of the main hall corridor lies a moon terrace, above which are three parallel “phoenix pools.” The center of the main hall features a caisson ceiling. Originally, the main hall housed a statue of the God of Literature, while the front hall had statues of “Ju Lu Ge” and “Shen Ju,” related to the legend of Chen Fangkai, a Jinshi scholar of the Qing Yongzheng era. A wooden plaque inscribed with the calligraphy of Chen Ruolin titled "Founding of the Three Liu Wang Temple" is displayed in the front hall.
It was designated as a provincial-level cultural heritage site in 2009.
