The ruins of Gaofeng Academy are a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

Ruins of Gaofeng Academy

Located in Shipai Village, Shoushan Township, Jin'an District, Fuzhou City, Fujian Province. Originally built during the Song Dynasty, the academy fell into disrepair in modern times. It was discovered in 1996, and salvage archaeological excavations were carried out in 2003, revealing that the entire academy site covers an area of approximately 16,000 square meters. Gaofeng Academy was where the renowned Song Dynasty Neo-Confucian scholar Huang Gan lectured, wrote, and retreated.

Huang Gan devoted his life to promoting Neo-Confucian teachings and compiling the writings of Zhu Xi. After his death, his coffin was temporarily placed at Gaofeng Academy before he was eventually buried in Paofu Valley, southwest of the academy.
