Located in Gucheng Village, Xindian Town, Jin'an District, Fuzhou City, Fujian Province, the site spans around 150,000 square meters. Through several archaeological digs, it has been determined that the eastern wall has a remaining length of 287 meters, the northern wall about 310 meters, the western wall around 280 meters, and only the corner portion of the southern wall has been uncovered. A moat about 8.8 meters wide has been found outside the western wall. The walls were constructed from yellow-brown rammed earth, with ramming pits 4 to 5 centimeters in diameter and layers about 12 centimeters thick, formed by clustered circular ramming. Within the city and at the bottom of the moat, 1,235 pottery fragments (pieces) have been unearthed, including 15 pieces from coarse rope-patterned pottery jars—items comparable to those from the late Warring States period in Central China. The remaining over 1,000 fragments (pieces), consisting of square-grid-patterned, string-patterned, and rope-patterned pottery as well as bricks, are all relics from the early Han Dynasty. Black, hardened earthen road surfaces with pillar holes and rammed earth foundations have also been found within the city. Beneath one of the foundations, a tomb was discovered, although no skeletal remains or burial objects were found. Some scholars believe the city was built during the late Warring States period to the early Han Dynasty and corresponds to “Dongye” mentioned in Records of the Grand Historian and “Ye” in Book of Han, though this view remains debated in academic circles.
