Lin Zexu’s Ancestral Home and Ancient Well are protected as a cultural heritage site of Fuqing City.

Lin Zexu’s Ancestral Home and Ancient Well are located in Candou Village, Haikou Town, dating back to the late Ming Dynasty.

In 1988, Lin Zexu’s Ancestral Home and Ancient Well were designated as a county-level cultural heritage site.

Lin Zexu, also known as Yuanfu, and by the courtesy names Shaomu and Shilin, used the pseudonym Sicun Laoren in his later years. He was born on July 26, 1785, in Gudong Street, Houguan, Fujian (now part of Gulou District, Fuzhou). His father, Lin Binri, courtesy name Mengyang, and art name Yanggu, was a teacher; his mother, Chen Zhi, supplemented the family income by doing needlework and paper-cutting. At the age of four, Lin Zexu began his early education with his father and gained a reputation for literary talent in his youth. In 1798, during the third year of the Jiaqing reign, he passed the imperial examination at the county level and studied at Aofeng Academy, where he began to focus on practical learning.
