Mindu Folk Culture Park

Mindu Folk Culture Park is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

Mindu Folk Culture Park is located in the new urban area of Minhou County, covering an area of 180 acres with a total investment of 98 million yuan. The park focuses on showcasing the farming culture of the Minyue people. Through various structures (including relocated and restored buildings, Ming and Qing-style Minhou residences, and newly built functional facilities), landscape design, sculptures, physical exhibits, multimedia, and interactive experiences, it reflects the folk characteristics of the Fuzhou area during the Ming and Qing dynasties. It is a cultural project that combines leisure tourism with immersive experience.

Construction of Mindu Folk Culture Park began in November 2010. It is an open-themed cultural park highlighting farming culture, focusing on the ancient and modern farming and scholarly traditions of the Fuzhou area. The park covers 180 acres and mainly consists of a production garden, living garden, education garden, and a replica ancient commercial street.

Construction Scale

The production garden covers approximately 54 acres and includes a farming square, seasonal farmland, a farmhouse courtyard, side-occupation workshops, and a jasmine tea house. The garden features 13 sets of sculptures depicting farming activities and tea picking, recreating scenes of agricultural work, jasmine tea production, and handicrafts. The living garden spans about 57 acres and consists of ancient residences, a Fu Lu Shou Xi (Fortune, Prosperity, Longevity, Happiness) Square, a viewing tower, a theater stage, a teahouse, the Temple of the King of Minyue, and a seasonal square. It emphasizes daily life customs such as weddings and funerals, festive celebrations, tea drinking and opera performances, spring outings, mountain climbing, and folk beliefs.

The education garden covers an area of about 18 acres and features classical gardens such as private schools, --, and curved water flowing past wine vessels (qushui liushang), showcasing traditional educational practices and recreating scenes of childhood education, imperial examinations, and refined gatherings of scholars.

Located in the southern part of the park, the replica ancient commercial street covers about 34 acres and consists of seven buildings comprising 11 two-story structures that reflect the architectural style of local residential shops.

Architectural Culture

“To allow visitors to experience the history and culture of Mindu, the park management has also reconstructed two locally distinctive ancient buildings—the Yongfeng Temple of the King of Minyue and the Qingkou Turtle Mountain Pavilion—on a 1:1 scale,” said Xu Meiwen, deputy director of Minhou Mindu Folk Culture Park. To authentically recreate the living conditions of residents in ancient Mindu farmhouses, the park’s architecture is primarily based on Ming and Qing-era residential designs. These buildings are arranged according to the features of rural homes, furnished with farming tools and other items, striving to restore the most genuine ancient ambiance.

Located in the western suburbs of Fuzhou, it is the seat of Minhou County government and just 20 kilometers from downtown Fuzhou, the provincial capital. It spans 46.8 square kilometers and has a population of 38,000. The subdistrict administers 14 administrative villages and 2 neighborhood committees.

In 2005, Ganxue Town was abolished and re-established as Ganxue Subdistrict. The former administrative region of Ganxue Town became that of Ganxue Subdistrict, with the subdistrict office located in Wufu Village, the site of the original town government.
