Former Site Memorial of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the CPC

The Former Site Memorial of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the CPC is a national AA-level tourist attraction and a classic red tourism destination.

The Former Site Memorial of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China is located in Guanlie Village, Tangqian Township, Yongtai County.

In the winter of 1943, to crush the third anti-Communist upsurge of the Kuomintang diehards and continue leading the people of the entire province in the anti-Japanese struggle, the Fujian Provincial Committee of the CPC relocated from northern Fujian to central Yongtai. The Provincial Committee successively conducted revolutionary activities in Wutong Qingxi, Donghu (now part of Xianyou County), and Tangqian Guanlie, leading the people of the whole province in anti-Japanese and anti-diehard struggles for a period of three years.

In July 1944, the Provincial Committee headquarters moved to Guanlie. There, based on the development of the anti-Japanese situation, the Committee issued important documents such as the “Directive on Preparing Policies for the Anti-Japanese Guerrilla War” and the “Second Directive on the Anti-Japanese Guerrilla War,” guiding the people of the province in conducting armed anti-Japanese struggles. Figures such as Zeng Jingbing, Zuo Fengmei, and Huang Guozhang also led over 100 people to launch a “lightning” public anti-Japanese campaign in Minhou’s Nanyu Township. From October to December, the Provincial Committee dispatched armed forces from Guanlie and Tu’ershan to attack Kuomintang diehard forces in Huangdun Village, Wulong, Fuqing; Longtian; Zhandou, Yongtai; and Laixi and Zhongmen, Putian. In May 1945, when the Kuomintang diehards launched a large-scale siege against the Provincial Committee headquarters and the guerrilla zones, local residents made active contributions to defending the headquarters and ensuring the supply of food and daily necessities.

To commemorate the historical achievements of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the CPC in leading the people of the province in armed anti-Japanese struggles in Qingxi and Guanlie, Yongtai, and to inherit and promote the fine traditions of revolution as well as the revolutionary spirit of martyrs and the people of the old base areas, in May 2005, the Yongtai County Committee of the CPC and the Yongtai County People’s Government decided to build the Former Site Memorial of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the CPC in Guanlie Village, Tangqian Township. Construction began in November 2005, was completed in August 2006, and the memorial was officially unveiled with a plaque unveiling ceremony and the designation as a “Fuzhou Patriotic Education Base” on September 30.

The Former Site Memorial of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the CPC faces northeast, backed by green hills. It is a single-story frame structure, 28.4 meters wide and 17.4 meters deep, with a front and rear floor height of 4.8 meters and side floor heights of 4.5 meters. The building covers an area of over 1,600 square meters, with a construction area of 355.68 square meters. The memorial adopts the traditional Chinese quadrangle architectural style, featuring red doors, white walls, and bluish-gray glazed tiles, giving it a solemn and dignified appearance. Inside, there is an exhibition hall, inner courtyard, front hall, meeting room, reception area, as well as offices for the Guanlie Village Party Branch and Village Committee. The exhibition hall spans 136.8 square meters and displays photos and a large number of artifacts. On the left wall of the front hall is a marble plaque engraved with the names and birth–death dates of 41 revolutionary martyrs from the county during the New Democratic Revolution period. The right wall displays a map of the revolutionary struggle in Yongtai.

In June 2006, the Former Site Memorial of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the CPC was designated as a Fuzhou Patriotic Education Base by the Fuzhou Municipal Committee of the CPC and the Fuzhou Municipal People’s Government.

2. Guanlie Monument at the Former Site of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the CPC

The Guanlie Monument at the Former Site of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the CPC is located in front of the Former Site Memorial of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the CPC in Guanlie Village, Tangqian Township, Yongtai County.

To commemorate the activities of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the CPC in Yongtai and to inherit and promote the revolutionary spirit of the predecessors and the people of the old base areas, in June 1991, the Yongtai County Committee of the CPC and the Yongtai County People’s Government decided to build the Former Site Monument in Guanlie Village for revolutionary tradition education.

In July 1991, construction began on the Guanlie Monument at the Former Site of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the CPC. The monument was completed in October of the same year, and the unveiling ceremony was held jointly with the Tower Mountain Former Site Monument of the Fujian Provincial Committee on December 23, 1992. The monument is situated on a small hill in Guanlie Village, covering an area of 100 square meters. It consists of a large bluestone block, with a diamond-shaped top and a rectangular lower body. It measures 0.89 meters in width, 0.11 meters in thickness, and 2.27 meters in height. The base and platform are constructed from granite strips, forming a square shape. The base has two tiers, larger at the bottom and smaller at the top, standing 0.58 meters high. The lower base has sides 1.8 meters long, while the upper base has bottom sides 1.395 meters long and top sides 1.305 meters long. The monument is enclosed by steel pipe chains, and the platform measures 4.98 meters per side and 0.73 meters in height. The upper part of the monument features engravings of a hammer and sickle, while the front bears an inscription by Xiang Nan, former Secretary of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the CPC and member of the Central Advisory Commission: “Former Site of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the CPC.” The back of the monument bears an inscription by the Yongtai County Committee of the CPC and the Yongtai County People’s Government, describing the relocation of the Provincial Committee to Guanlie Village, its establishment in Kekeng, its leadership in the people’s armed anti-Japanese struggle, and the significant contributions made by the local people in protecting the safety of the Provincial Committee, as well as the heroic sacrifices of six comrades—Xue Houxin, Lin Simei, Wang Xishui, Su Yangqi, Su Yangquan, and Su Yanglin—who were unfortunately captured and killed.

In May 2003, the Yongtai County Committee of the CPC renovated and expanded the monument. In April 2006, in preparation for the construction of the Former Site Memorial of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the CPC, the monument was relocated and rebuilt at a site below and to the left of the memorial.
