Martyrs' Memorial Park of Ni Chaolong

The Martyrs' Memorial Park of Ni Chaolong is located in Xianjin Village, Dongzhang Town.

Ni Chaolong, also known as Ni Xiaohong and styled Xiaoyun, was born in 1906 in Tan'yadi, Dongzhang Town (now part of Xianjin Village), and was among the earliest Communists to spread Marxism in Fuqing.

On December 10, 1930, when the Party organization was holding a secret meeting near a residential building close to Lida Academy in Jiangwan, Shanghai, it was detected by spies. Ni Chaolong, then the secretary of the Communist Party of China's Jiangwan Labor University Branch in Shanghai, along with over 20 other attendees, was unfortunately arrested. He was subjected to more than three months of severe torture during interrogation but resolutely safeguarded the Party’s secrets and remained unyielding. In April 1931, he was sentenced to nine years in prison, to be served at the Nanjing Central Military Prison. During his imprisonment, the enemy continued—torturing him and forcing him to renounce the Communist Party. Though covered in wounds and emaciated, he persisted in the struggle with unwavering determination. Due to the severity of his injuries, Ni Chaolong passed away in prison in October of that year at the age of 25.

After Ni Chaolong’s sacrifice, he was—buried hastily in a barren slope opposite the military prison. In early 1950, to commemorate the martyrs, the Nanjing Municipal People's Government built the large-scale Yuhuatai Martyrs' Cemetery in the Jiangdong area of Nanjing, where the name of Martyr Ni Chaolong was inscribed on the cemetery’s memorial tablet.

In 2008, Ni Ruoping, Ni Chaolong’s grandniece, proposed erecting a bronze statue of Ni Chaolong beside the ancestral Ni clan hall, so that his heroic image could remain forever and serve as a role model for future generations of the Ni family. With strong support from the clan members, after several years of effort, the Ni Chaolong statue was finally unveiled in July 2012. Later, a Ni Chaolong Martyrs' Historical Exhibition Room was also established next to the Ni clan hall for descendants to pay their respects. On December 2, 2012, over 1,000 representatives of the Ni clan from across the province gathered at the Ni clan hall in Dongzhang, Fuqing, to hold a grand unveiling ceremony for the Ni Chaolong bronze statue and the martyrs' cemetery monument; Wen Huibin, director of the Yuhuatai Martyrs' Memorial Hall in Nanjing, attended to offer congratulations.
