Jilan Village is a revolutionary base village and served as an important stronghold for the Fuqing East District guerrillas during the Liberation War. The village is secluded, easily defensible, and hard to attack, making it one of the revolutionary guerrilla zones selected by the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party in Fuqing, Changle, and Pingtan. The Wu Clan Branch Ancestral Hall was one of the main sites for revolutionary activities.

In 1933, Chen Jin came to Jilan Village to promote revolution, recruiting guerrillas such as Wu Jiyu, Wu Duzhi, and Wu Jiting, and establishing a workers’ and peasants’ guerrilla unit. In the winter of 1935, Chen Jin led several guerrillas to hold a meeting and take an oath at the Wu Clan Branch Ancestral Hall. In the first lunar month of 1937, Chen Jin, Chen Hengyuan, Chen Zhongxiong, and Chen Zhengshun returned to the village and held another meeting at the Wu Clan Branch Ancestral Hall, focusing on setting up a night school for the public. The meeting decided to appoint Wu Jifu, Wu Jiting, and Wu Shaozhi as teachers to spread the seeds of revolution. The night school operated at the Wu Clan Branch Ancestral Hall for several years. In the spring of 1941, Chen Hengyuan led guerrillas in holding a meeting at the Wu Clan Branch Ancestral Hall to organize an anti-Japanese guerrilla unit and ambush the Japanese artillery position on Dongyue Mountain. In March 1949, leaders of the Fuqing County Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, including Yu Jianhai, Chen Zhenliang, Chen Zhenbiao, and Chen Mushui, gathered 64 revolutionary comrades at the Wu Clan Branch Ancestral Hall for an expanded meeting. The meeting aimed to propagate and implement the “June 23 Directive” conveyed by Huang Guozhang from the provincial committee. Its main points were to rely on poor peasants, mobilize the masses deeply, uproot the roots of Chiang Kai-shek’s influence, and carry out struggles against rent, tyranny, and the three levies (military service, grain, and taxes). The meeting lasted three days and helped create favorable conditions for the early liberation of Fuqing.

The Wu Clan Branch Ancestral Hall covers a construction area of approximately 260 square meters. It was built in the late Qing Dynasty with a timber-framed earthen structure and is currently in relatively poor condition.
