Workshop Mountain Battle Victory Site

The Workshop Mountain Battle Victory Site is located in Zuofang Village, Yangxia Subdistrict, Fuqing City.

On August 17, 1949, under the command of Corps Commander Ye Fei and Political Commissar ——, the majority of the 50,000 enemy troops stationed in Fuzhou were annihilated by the 28th, 29th, and 31st Armies of the 10th Corps of the Third Field Army of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. The remaining Nationalist forces retreated southward. One group fled east of the Fuzhou-Xiamen Highway, attempting to cross the sea from Haikou in Fuqing to Pingtan; another group headed west of the highway, trying to escape to southern Fujian via Fuqing, Yongtai, Putian, and Xianyou. One battalion of the 254th Regiment of the 85th Division of the People's Liberation Army remained in Rongcheng, while the regimental headquarters led two battalions along the Zuofang–Lantian line, coordinating with the 255th Regiment along the Rongcheng–Jiulong’an line, and the 253rd Regiment along the Xindian–Dongzhang line, to intercept and eliminate the fleeing enemies. On August 18, when over 11,000 remnants of the enemy forces abandoned the city and fled south to the Workshop Mountain area in Fuqing, they were intercepted and defeated by the 29th Army. At Workshop Mountain, more than 4,700 enemies were captured, including one lieutenant general and ten major generals. During the liberation of Fujian by our army, the battle at Workshop Mountain in Yangxia, Fuqing, was the engagement where the highest-level command structure of the enemy was destroyed and the most high-ranking officers were captured.

To commemorate the remarkable achievements of the 10th Corps of the People's Liberation Army in the battle against the Nationalist forces at Workshop Mountain in Yangxia, and to honor the martyrs and educate future generations, the Fuzhou Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, Fuzhou Municipal People’s Government, Fuqing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, and Fuqing Municipal People’s Government decided to construct the “Desheng Pavilion” on Workshop Mountain, with construction starting on May 20, 2009. Local residents participated enthusiastically in the pavilion’s construction. Retired Senior General Lu Fuxiang, former commander of the provincial military district, personally inscribed the names “Desheng Park” and “Desheng Pavilion,” and donated the “Desheng Park Monument.”

On August 21, 2009, Fuqing Municipal People’s Government held the completion ceremony of the “Desheng Pavilion” and the unveiling ceremony of the “Desheng Monument” in Zuofang Village, Yangxia Subdistrict.
