Martyrs' Cemetery of Chen Bingkui
The Martyrs' Cemetery of Chen Bingkui is a patriotic education base.
The Martyrs' Cemetery of Chen Bingkui is located in Jitou Village, Yangxia Subdistrict, Fuqing City.
Chen Bingkui, originally named Chen Zu jin, was born in 1907 in Jitou Village, Yangxia Township, Fuqing City. He once served as a member of the Fuqing Special Branch of the CPC, Secretary of the Fuqing County Committee of the CPC, and a member of the Central Fujian Special Committee, among other roles.
In 1934, Chen Bingkui, along with Chen Jinlai and Yu Changyue, led the “Nanxiting” uprising, confronting local tyrants and landlords, and distributing confiscated grain, clothing, and other supplies to impoverished peasants, which shocked the Nationalist authorities in Fuqing County. At a time when Japanese invaders were creating incidents in North China and the nation faced a critical survival crisis, Chen Bingkui traveled tirelessly across Central Fujian, promoting the Party’s call to “unite, stop the civil war, and resist Japan together,” and fought tenaciously against reactionary forces. On February 14, 1937, he was arrested due to betrayal by a traitor. While in prison, Chen Bingkui wrote a letter to his nephew Chen Yingming, reporting to the Party organization the circumstances of his arrest and that of four fellow detainees (Wang Yujie, Huang Xiaomin, Yu Changyue, and Pan Tao), as well as their conduct in prison. The enemy set up a luxurious banquet and tried to tempt them with offers of high official positions, wealth, and beautiful women to persuade them to surrender, but Chen Bingkui and the other four slammed the table in anger and kicked over the feast. On June 23, 1937, he was executed at the Jiaojieluo Execution Ground in Fuzhou at the age of 29.
To commemorate Martyr Chen Bingkui, the Fuqing Municipal Committee of the CPC and the People’s Government of Fuqing City decided in 2003 to build the Martyrs' Cemetery of Chen Bingkui. The cemetery was constructed alongside the Fuqing Jitou Revolutionary History Memorial Hall and was completed and opened to the public in 2005, covering an area of 13.5 mu. The eight large characters on the “Monument to Martyr Chen Bingkui” standing in the cemetery were inscribed by General Sun Keji, former Deputy Political Commissar of the Nanjing Military Region. The cemetery has a small path leading to the Fuqing Jitou Revolutionary History Memorial Hall, offering convenient transportation.
The Martyrs' Cemetery of Chen Bingkui was designated as a Fuqing Municipal Patriotic Education Base by the Fuqing Municipal Committee of the CPC and the People’s Government of Fuqing City in March 2005.
