Memorial Pavilion of the Underground Transportation Station in Xinjaocun Village

The Memorial Pavilion of the Underground Transportation Station in Xinjaocun Village is located in Xinjaocun Village, Yangxia Subdistrict, Fuqing City.

The pavilion was built to commemorate revolutionary predecessors such as Zheng Xiaomei and her husband. From 1934 to 1949, in Xinrendian, northern Fuqing, the couple established a secret transportation station, risking their lives to successfully carry out important tasks such as intelligence delivery and the protection of underground party members.

Zheng Xiaomei, born in August 1906 into a poor family in Xizheng Village, Yangxia Town, Fuqing, joined the Chinese Communist Party in April 1934 along with her husband Zeng Xiami, both introduced by underground party leaders He Wencheng and Yu Changyue. Under the guise of running a teahouse in Xinrendian, the couple engaged in secret transportation activities for 15 years. In 1934, Zheng Xiaomei participated in the Nánxītíng Uprising and the Běixītíng Uprising, and was involved in a prison break plan to rescue county party leaders such as He Wencheng and He Xutao. Even after the escape failed, she continued her underground work. During the Anti-Japanese War, she was tasked with assisting guerrilla forces in gathering weapons and strengthening their equipment. She once led over 20 young volunteers to borrow resources from local gentry and successfully ambushed Japanese soldiers roaming northern Fuqing. On the eve of liberation, she mobilized the masses in the northern region and worked with the CCP underground to collect weapons and ammunition from landlords and gentry in preparation for Fuqing’s liberation.

While protecting underground party activities, Zheng Xiaomei was arrested and imprisoned three times, enduring severe torture but never yielding. To support the revolution, she went to great lengths to ensure her comrades were fed, selling her family’s only four acres of mountain field and even painfully parting with two of her daughters, paying a heavy personal price for the cause. In 1950, she was elected as a model laborer in the first session of Fujian Province’s Labor Model Awards. On March 15, 1951, she passed away at the age of 45 due to overwork.

To honor the courageous and indomitable struggle of these predecessors, Yangxia Subdistrict built the memorial pavilion in Xinjaocun Village in October 2007 and held an inauguration ceremony.
