Former Site of the Birthplace of the "Fuqing Party-Youth Mixed Branch"

The former site of the birthplace of the "Fuqing Party-Youth Mixed Branch" is located at Yujing Temple on Yujing Street in Dongzhang Town, Fuqing City.

In the autumn of 1930, the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China assigned Xie Tingqing, a native of Fuqing, to return to Fuqing to carry out party work. After returning, Xie Tingqing concealed his identity as a teacher at Mingyi Middle School and actively contacted fellow party members, reconnecting with He Xiluan and the various youth group units he led. Soon after, he convened a meeting with over ten people including Chen Zihuo and Zheng Zhizhong at Yujing Temple in Dongzhang, where the "Fuqing Party-Youth Mixed Branch" was established. Xie Tingqing served as the branch secretary, with Chen Zihuo, He Xiluan (a league member), Zheng Zhizhong (a league member), and Wang Daoqiu (a league member) as committee members. The meeting decided that Xie Yuliu would be responsible for establishing a village education promotion association, Wang Daoqiu would oversee work along the Fuzhou-Xiamen highway, Chen Zihuo would take charge of the ten suburban townships, Zheng Zhizhong would manage the Longtian and Gaoshan areas, and He Xiluan would be responsible for Communist Youth League and women & youth affairs. This marked the first time Fuqing had a local organization of the Chinese Communist Party.

After its establishment, the Fuqing Party-Youth Mixed Branch held three meetings successively at Ruiyun Pagoda, Jicui Garden, and the Wu Family Ancestral Hall. They decided to recruit progressive-minded youths into the organization and to go deep into rural areas to organize peasant associations and carry out anti-rent and anti-tax campaigns. By the end of 1930, Xie Tingqing was arrested, and He Xiluan, facing the pressure of the situation, went to Shanghai to continue his studies. As a result, the Party-Youth Mixed Branch was disbanded prematurely.

Yujing Temple, also known as Yujing Palace, Shuijing Palace, or Shuijing Temple, is the communal temple shared by the residents of the nine villages and eighteen communities in Dongzhang. Legend has it that it was first built during the late Song and early Yuan dynasties, boasting a long history. The temple primarily enshrines Marshal Gong, with side halls dedicated to the local deity and the Earth God. The architectural style is that of a traditional Ming Dynasty six-bay, three-courtyard earthen structure, featuring carved beams and painted rafters, with an elegant design and covering an area of over 2,000 square meters. On the eve of liberation, it served as the headquarters of the Dongzhang Peasant Association. After liberation, it became the office of the Dongzhang Township government, and later, Dongzhang Primary School was established here. In 1958, Fuqing No. 7 Middle School was also founded on this site. During the Cultural Revolution, the site was used as the Dongzhang Overseas Chinese Association Rattan Factory. According to inscriptions, Yujing Temple underwent multiple renovations between the Tianqi era of the Ming Dynasty and the Guangxu era of the Qing Dynasty, underwent a comprehensive overhaul in the spring of 1992, was expanded again in 2007, and was repurposed as a senior citizens' activity center.

Dongzhang Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Fuqing City. Established as Dongzhang Town in 1950, reorganized as a commune in 1958, and reinstated as a town in 1984. It is located in the northwest of the city, 13 kilometers from the city center.
