Former Site of the Fuqing Detachment of the Fujian Anti-Japanese Vanguard Corps

The former site of the Fuqing Detachment of the Fujian Anti-Japanese Vanguard Corps is located at Jufutang, south of the He Clan Ancestral Hall in Jiudian Village, Jiangjing Town, Fuqing City.

Jiudian Village is a revolutionary base village. In 1938, He Xutao was dispatched by Chen Hengyuan, a leader of the underground Communist Party, to serve as the village head of Jiudian in Jiangde Township. In February of the following year, he became the head of Jiangde Township, using his official position as a cover to secretly engage in revolutionary activities. He Xutao was deeply concerned about the hardships of the local farmers. On his first day as township head, he clearly announced to all local village and neighborhood heads at Jufutang that any taxation or levies imposed by their units had to be approved by him and that villagers must not be burdened without authorization.

In October 1944, in accordance with the arrangements made at the Chang Le Nanyang Conference by the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, Chen Hengyuan and He Xutao led a group of armed personnel to raise the anti-Japanese banner at Taishan Temple and Jufutang in Jiudian Village, launching anti-Japanese activities. This place became the anti-Japanese stronghold for the Longtian (Tian) and Gaoshan (Mountain) area.

To expand their armed forces, He Xutao negotiated with He Qichi, captain of the Jiangde Township Civilian Self-Defense Corps, and reached an agreement to cooperate in the anti-Japanese effort. The self-defense corps and guerrilla forces were merged to form the Fuqing Detachment of the Fujian Anti-Japanese Vanguard Corps, with He Xutao as detachment commander, Liu Jiahui as deputy commander, and over 100 members. Jufutang served as the former site of the Fuqing Detachment. To secure military funding for the detachment, He Xutao led a team to Xiayezhuang Village in Jiangyin to settle accounts with the local tyrant Lin Daoquan, who had amassed wealth through usury. Part of the confiscated goods were publicly auctioned at Jufutang.

Jufutang was originally built during the Song Dynasty. Due to years of disrepair, it was renovated in the 1980s, with a construction area of 450 square meters. It is currently well preserved.
