Former Site of the Limei Village Office of the Fuqing County Committee of the Communist Party of China

The former site of the Limei Village Office of the Fuqing County Committee of the Communist Party of China is located at the former residence of Yu Zhaoheng in Limei Village, Longshan Subdistrict, Fuqing City.

In April 1947, after the premature end of the Long-Gao Armed Uprising, the revolutionary forces in Fuqing suffered severe setbacks. In early 1948, Yu Hongqing, the captain of the Fuqing Squadron of the Central Fujian Guerrilla Unit who had been wounded in battle, was secretly relocated to Beicuo under the guidance of Yu Jianhai, and went into hiding at the home of Yu Zhaoheng to recover from his injuries. The heavy responsibility of rebuilding the Fuqing County Committee fell on Yu Hongqing’s shoulders.

Beicuo is located southeast of Limei Village (now called Beidian), the first major village outside the eastern gate of Rongcheng, and enjoys convenient transportation and access to information. With its shaded trees, the area was conducive to concealment and movement. Yu Zhaoheng and other villagers, led by Yu Jianhai, a local Communist Party member, embarked on the revolutionary path. The poor folks of Beicuo became the Party’s core supporters, making Beicuo an ideal base for rebuilding the Fuqing County Committee.

In July 1948, the Fuqing County Committee of the Communist Party of China was officially established at the home of Yu Zhaoheng in Beicuo. The committee was led by Secretary Yu Hongqing, Deputy Secretary Shen Zucheng, and members Chen Zhenliang, Chen Zhenbiao, Shen Zuxia, and Yu Jianhai (who was later added). Beicuo became the heart of Fuqing’s revolution at the time, revitalizing and expanding the Party’s organizations at all levels. Meanwhile, six comrades from Beicuo, including Yu Zhaoheng, joined the Communist Party through the introduction of Yu Jianhai. The Limei Party Branch was established, with Yu Zhaoheng serving as branch secretary. The branch took on the critical task of protecting the safety of the County Committee. Under the cover of night, party members dug a tunnel whose entrance was located in the cowshed of Yu Zhaoheng’s house. The tunnel was spacious enough to fit a bed, and was used to hide people, store weapons and ammunition, a printing press, and propaganda materials. The newly formed County Committee held an expanded cadre meeting in Beicuo to further implement the spirit of the June 23rd Conference of the Central Fujian Regional Committee, deciding to organize armed work teams, mobilize the masses, and launch struggles against local despots and the “Three Levies” (land tax, grain levy, and livestock levy), laying the foundation for broader guerrilla armed struggle.

The former residence of Yu Zhaoheng covers a construction area of approximately 230 square meters, features a brick-and-wood structure, and is currently well preserved.

The establishment of Longshan Subdistrict is a product of the rapid urban economic development of Fuqing City, a response to the increasingly standardized demands of community development in the city, and an effective measure to deepen the village-to-residential-area transformation strategy, optimize resource allocation, and alleviate conflicts between population and land use.
