Jiaoling Martyrs' Memorial Pavilion

The Jiaoling Martyrs' Memorial Pavilion is a classic red tourism destination.

The Jiaoling Martyrs' Memorial Pavilion is located beside Qingzha Road in Jiaoling Natural Village, Luolian Township, Changle District. It lies against Niutong Mountain to the north and faces Bijia Mountain.

In March 1947, following directives from the central leadership, the Central Fujian Regional Committee of the Communist Party of China held a meeting with cadres above the county-level cultural relics protection unit at Longjuanmu Farm in Yutian, Changle. Based on the actual conditions of the Central Fujian region, the meeting decided to launch an armed uprising to further develop revolutionary forces. After the meeting, Chen Zhenxian, Secretary of the Fu-Chang-Ping (Fuqing, Changle, Pingtan) Working Committee of the Communist Party of China, with the armed assistance of the Central Fujian Regional Committee, mobilized the masses and formulated an uprising plan. Chen Hengguang, Secretary of the Changle Working Committee and Political Commissar of the Changle Guerrilla Unit, also actively participated in the preparations for the Long-Gao Uprising. The following month, due to insufficient secrecy, the Long-Gao Uprising was “encircled and suppressed” by enemy forces, and the revolutionary troops suffered heavy losses.

In May 1947, after learning about the basic situation of the Fuqing Long-Gao Uprising, Chen Zhenxian went to Fuzhou to report to the leadership. On the way, he was betrayed by a traitor and was arrested near the Youxi Guild Hall along with guerrilla fighters Chen Hengguang, Chen Qingdi, and others. They were detained at the Dao Mountain Road Detention Center in Fuzhou. In prison, they endured severe torture but remained steadfast. On October 26 of the same year, while being escorted to Fuqing, Chen Zhenxian, Chen Qingdi, and Chen Hengguang were brutally executed by the enemy at the northern foot of Jiaolingding (Guanyin Pavilion) in Luolian.

To commemorate the revolutionary martyrs and inspire future generations, on July 1, 1988, the Communist Party Committee and People’s Government of Fuqing County, together with the Communist Party Committee and People’s Government of Changle County, jointly funded the construction of the Jiaoling Martyrs' Memorial Pavilion on the east side of the highway north of Jiaoling Village. At the center of the pavilion stands a memorial stele for the three martyrs. The front is inscribed with “Eternal Glory to the Martyrs Chen Zhenxian, Chen Hengguang, and Chen Qingdi,” and the back features “A Brief Account of the Three Martyrs Who Died for Justice in Jiaoling.” The pillars of the pavilion bear a couplet inscribed by former provincial leader Cheng Xu: “Blood dyed the mountains and rivers of Jiaoling green; their valor shines anew over the Long River and the sun and moon.”
