The Site of the Anti-Japanese Ambush Battle at Langwei Port is located in Langfeng Village, Yutian Town, Changle District.

On April 19, 1941, Lieutenant Commander Nakashima of the Japanese garrison in the Mashao (Ma Wei) to Yingqian (Ying Qian) area led over 100 Japanese soldiers, traveling aboard two motorboats from Yingqian to Jiaoling for an inspection. Upon learning of this, the Changle Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Unit formulated an ambush plan at noon that same day in Daxi Village. They decided to select 48 guerrilla fighters who were familiar with the terrain and skilled in combat to form a suicide squad. The squad was equipped with one Czech-made machine gun, over 40 rifles, and a number of grenades, and divided into three combat groups. They lay in ambush in the orange grove on the southern bank of Langwei Port, where the Japanese boats were bound to pass, waiting for the right moment to strike the enemy. After inspecting the fortifications, Commander Nakashima led his troops back. The first Japanese boat entered the ambush zone of the guerrillas. In an instant, the guerrillas’ machine guns and rifles opened fire, and dozens of grenades were hurled at the Japanese boat. Caught off guard, the Japanese soldiers were thrown into chaos. The enemy boat was heavily damaged and began to sink, prompting the Japanese to leap into the water to escape. At that time, the river was just beginning to rise, with shallow water and deep mud. The Japanese, wearing long boots, sank into the mud upon entering the river and were unable to extricate themselves, becoming easy targets. The other motorboat hurriedly landed at Youlin Village and fired blindly in retreat, but the guerrilla fighters had already withdrawn from their positions and safely retreated to Xipu. The battle ended in less than half an hour. During the engagement, one Japanese motorboat was destroyed, and 42 enemies including Commander Nakashima were killed, while not a single guerrilla fighter was injured or killed. This battle stands as the most successful engagement carried out by the anti-Japanese guerrilla forces along the coast of Fujian.

The Site of the Anti-Japanese Ambush Battle at Langwei Port consists of the Anti-Japanese Memorial Pavilion and the War of Resistance Park. In 1990, the Changle County People’s Government allocated funds to build the “Anti-Japanese Ambush Battle at Langwei Port Memorial Pavilion” in commemoration of the battle. In the center of the pavilion stands the Monument to the Anti-Japanese Ambush Battle at Langwei Port, with the battle’s summary inscribed on the back. The two pillars of the pavilion bear the couplet: “Resisting the fierce enemy and protecting the homeland relied on our forebears who sacrificed their lives without hesitation; striving for great achievements and revitalizing China depends on future generations carrying on the mission.” The Langwei Port War of Resistance Park was constructed in March 2010, covering an area of 8,500 square meters. It includes 1,160 square meters of hardened cement pathways, three uniquely designed pavilions, 670 meters of granite pathway stones, and 2,267 square meters of landscaped greenery.
