Site of the Former Luanjuan Tomb Revolutionary Base of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the CPC and the Minzhong Special Committee
The site of the former Luanjuan Tomb Revolutionary Base of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the CPC and the Minzhong Special Committee is a classic red tourism destination.
The site of the former Luanjuan Tomb Revolutionary Base of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the CPC and the Minzhong Special Committee is located at the Luanjuan Tomb Farm, at the junction of Changle, Fuqing, and Minhou counties. The site is connected via mountain paths to Lidong in Fuqing, Nanyang in Changle, and Yalan Ding in Minhou, situated 4 kilometers from Yunjuli and 7 kilometers from Yutian Town. Its central area features a gentle-sloped mountainous terrain spanning thousands of acres, suitable for farming, surrounded by mountains on all sides with perilous yet defensible terrain, ideal for both offense and defense. As early as the period of the Agrarian Revolutionary War, this area was already an active zone for organizational activities of our Party.
In April 1941, when the Japanese invaded Fujian, under the directive of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the CPC, an anti-Japanese guerrilla unit was formed with Chen Hengyuan as its captain, making this area one of the anti-Japanese guerrilla zones. In 1942, as arranged by the organization, Zheng Nai zhi, a secret Party worker embedded in the Kuomintang’s 70th Army, took “leave” to return to his hometown to carry out activities. Together with anti-Japanese guerrilla fighter Zheng Chunmin, he organized the establishment of the Luanjuan Tomb Farm, officially registered and approved by the Fuqing County Government of the Kuomintang under the name “Guarantee-Responsibility Changle Yutian Reclamation and Animal Husbandry Production Cooperative.” It had 13 shareholders, including Zheng Changqi, an early Changle Communist Party member who served as an executive committee member of the Fuzhou Municipal Committee in 1927. Initially, the farm employed 17 farm laborers, reclaimed wasteland for sweet potato cultivation, and raised hundreds of cattle and sheep. The production proceeds were used to supply the guerrilla forces. In November 1944, by decision of the Central China Bureau of the CPC, the farm became a supply base for the Minzhong Military Sub-district, operating directly under the sub-district. Zheng Chunmin was appointed as head of the Supply Department of the Minzhong Military Sub-district. The Minzhong guerrilla forces received a continuous supply of personnel, food, medicine, weapons, and ammunition through the farm. Wounded soldiers transported from the frontlines were also treated here. The farm successfully fulfilled the tasks assigned by the Party organization and was commended multiple times by higher authorities. Hundreds of cadres engaged in revolutionary work at the farm over the years. In June 1945, the Fujian Provincial Committee of the CPC evacuated from Nanyang. Provincial Party Secretary Zeng Jingbing led committee members and a portion of elite armed forces to relocate to Luanjuan Tomb. From the second half of 1945 to early 1946, the provincial committee developed a number of Party members at mountain huts in Luanjuan Tomb and Yunjuli. A few hundred meters behind the Yunjuli hut lies a cave that could accommodate over ten people, which the provincial committee used to hold secret meetings. In the second half of 1946, the headquarters of the Minzhong Special Committee of the CPC and its main armed forces moved to Luanjuan Tomb, where several important meetings were held. In March 1947, the Luanjuan Tomb revolutionary base was exposed, leading to the immediate withdrawal of the special committee headquarters and main forces. On a night in early April 1947, Hu Jikuan led an reinforced battalion of the 1st Regiment of the Provincial Security Forces to “encircle and suppress” Luanjuan Tomb. Twenty-one communists, guerrillas, and key contacts were arrested.
The site was destroyed in the 1960s and later replaced by a two-story brick-concrete building covering an area of 600 square meters.
