Mawei Kuiqu Revolutionary Park

Kuiqu Revolutionary Park is located on the banks of the Min River and at the southern foot of Mount Gu, now surrounded by high-rises and numerous overpasses. Over 70 years ago, during those war-torn years, this once quiet and remote mountain village ignited countless sparks for the victory of the revolution.

Officials from Mawei District introduced the revolutionary stories that took place in Kuiqu: during the Liberation War, the Kuiqu Party Branch was established, followed by the creation of the Kuiqu District Working Committee and the guerrilla unit. From then on, the revolutionary spark in the Kuiqu area was lit.

In October 1947, at the Gaohu Meeting of the Fujian–Zhejiang–Jiangxi Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Central County Committee of the five counties—Minqing, Gutian, Linsen (now Sanming), Luoyuan, and Lianjiang—was established. Under the leadership of the Five-County Central County Committee, the revolutionary situation in the Kuiqu area rapidly developed, and it even became the base and command center of the committee. In October 1948, the Five-County Central County Committee held a landmark working conference in Kuiqu, laying the foundation for consolidating the old revolutionary bases and opening up new guerrilla bases. After the meeting, despite losing contact with higher-level organizations, the Five-County Central County Committee independently led the guerrilla warfare, operating across Kuiqu, Ding’an, Lianjiang, and Luoyuan. Amid a heavily encircled enemy force, they shifted from passive defense (anti-sweeping campaigns) to proactive offensives, and from fighting in interior lines to exterior operations. Their efforts made significant contributions to assisting the advancing forces in liberating Fuzhou and surrounding areas, leaving an indelible and glorious chapter in the revolutionary history of Fujian.

“This is a place where battles were fought. History should not be forgotten, and their revolutionary spirit must be remembered forever. That’s why we built Kuiqu Revolutionary Park,” explained an official from the Mawei District Party History Office. Throughout the park, new slogans have been added, and red elements have been integrated. The Kuiqu Revolutionary Memorial Hall has also been constructed to honor the martyrs and promote the revolutionary spirit.

The exhibits in the memorial hall are based on revolutionary historical materials such as the revolutionary history of Fuzhou and the Party history of Mawei District. They are divided into five major sections: the establishment and development of the Kuiqu Party organization, the founding and activities of the Five-County Central County Committee, the Kuiqu Conference and its impact, supporting the frontlines and welcoming liberation, and the new look of Kuiqu. Together, they comprehensively reflect the historical achievements and profound influence of Mawei Kuiqu during the revolutionary wars in Fuzhou.
