Former Site of the Niuxiang Revolutionary Stronghold

The Zhenjun Hall at the former site of the Niuxiang Revolutionary Stronghold is located at the foot of Niuxiang Mountain in Min’an Village, Tingjiang Town, Mawei District.

Niuxiang borders Guantou and Tingjiang along the Min River to the east, faces Mawei and Drum Mountain to the south, and lies against Huanchi in Beifeng to the west. Since the establishment of the Dongling Guerrilla Unit in 1946, sites such as the Zhenjun Hall in Niuxiang and Qitianya Mountain Fortress became important contact points and guerrilla zones for the Fifth County-level Central Committee of the Urban Work Department under the Fujian–Zhejiang–Jiangxi Provincial Committee of the Chinese Communist Party. Figures such as Lin Bai and Lin Kejun conducted underground work in the Dongling area and led the guerrilla unit in armed struggle and guerrilla activities here. After April 1948, the Niuxiang area became a key intelligence outpost for the Chinese Communist underground, receiving information from various mountain passes and roads in the vicinity. The revolutionary activities in the Niuxiang area made positive contributions to the liberation of Fuzhou.

The Zhenjun Hall was originally built in the first year of the Longxing era of the Southern Song Dynasty (1163), measuring 12 meters in width and 9 meters in depth. It has undergone multiple renovations, was rebuilt in 1947, and later expanded again. The current building covers an area of over 300 square meters, featuring golden glazed tiles, and is well preserved.

In June 1997, the Zhenjun Hall and Qitianya Mountain Fortress at the former site of the Niuxiang Revolutionary Stronghold were designated as Mawei District Revolutionary History Memorial Sites by the People’s Government of Mawei District.
