The former site of the Nandou Guerrilla Detachment Headquarters is located in Nandou Village, Langqi Town, Mawei District, Fuzhou City.

The revolutionary site of the Nandou Village guerrilla detachment in Langqi was a revolutionary stronghold established by the newly formed red district of Langqi before liberation. At that time, there were four armed forces stationed on Langqi Island, with a total troop strength of about 1,000. The environment on Langqi under the encirclement and control of reactionary forces was extremely perilous and fraught with danger.

In order to break the Kuomintang’s white terror rule, establish the new Langqi district, and set up a revolutionary stronghold, in 1948, Ling Shangkai, Secretary of the Party Working Committee and leader of the guerrilla detachment for the coastal region of Lin-Lian-Luo (referring to Linchuan, Lianjiang, and Luoyuan), and Lin Kelin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Working Committee and political commissar of the guerrilla detachment, decided to dispatch Tang Fanghe, a political worker and Communist Party member, back to his hometown—Nandou Village on Langqi Island—to carry out revolutionary work. At great personal risk, Tang Fanghe used his hometown as a base to mobilize the masses, secretly recruit Party members, establish a Poor Peasants’ Association, a Women’s Association, and a revolutionary armed force. On Langqi Island, he secretly recruited 16 underground Party members and formed the first Party organization—the Nandou Village Branch of the Communist Party of China—with Tang Fanghe as branch secretary. Later, in May 1949, it was expanded into the Langqi District Party Working Committee, with Tang Fanghe serving as secretary. In early 1949, the first revolutionary armed force on Langqi Island—the Langqi Guerrilla Detachment—was also established, consisting of over 50 members. Their base of operations was secretly set up in the mountains behind Nandou Village, where they carried out guerrilla activities. They coordinated with urban underground efforts, selecting several elite guerrilla members to enter Fuzhou City three times. At night, they posted revolutionary slogans around Taijiang Wharf and Zhongxuan area, sabotaged enemy communication equipment, disrupted enemy operations, and effectively spread propaganda among the people while striking at the enemy. In June 1949, following instructions from Lin Bai, Secretary of the Five-County Central County Committee, the Party Working Committee of Lin-Lian-Luo tasked the Langqi Guerrilla Detachment with preparing and delivering supplies to support the People’s Liberation Army’s entry into Fujian. At great risk, the guerrilla members broke through enemy lines and, using methods such as posing as merchants, provided over 30 dan (a traditional unit of weight) of supplies including salt, seafood, non-staple food items, and daily necessities. They successfully completed their support mission for the frontlines, earning praise from military leaders and heads of the supply support stations.

To commemorate the glorious history of the Nandou Guerrilla Detachment, the Mawei District Committee of the Communist Party of China decided to build a memorial hall on the site, which serves as a patriotic education base for Mawei District. The memorial hall covers a construction area of 1,800 square meters and was completed and put into use in August 2007.

Nandou Village: Nandou Village is located in the northern part of Langqi Town, with a total of 165 households and 570 residents. There are currently 15 Party members and five members in the village’s two committees. The village has approximately 300 acres of farmland. The overall appearance and infrastructure of the village are relatively well-maintained.
