Former Site of Zheng Zhenteng’s Anti-Japanese Salvation Night School

The former site of Zheng Zhenteng’s Anti-Japanese Salvation Night School is a cultural relic protection unit of Fuzhou City.

The former site of Zheng Zhenteng’s Anti-Japanese Salvation Night School is located at the Zheng Clan Ancestral Hall in Gaohu Village, Gai Mountain Town, Cangshan District, Fuzhou.

In 1937, after the full outbreak of the War of Resistance against Japan, various sectors in Fuzhou established groups such as the “Fujian Anti-Enemy Support Association” and the “Fuzhou Cultural Circle Salvation Association.” Communists including Zheng Zhenteng initiated the formation of the Fuzhou Youth Anti-Enemy Propaganda Work Troupe, which actively carried out anti-Japanese propaganda through various forms. Zheng Zhenteng and his two brothers, along with communists Lin Bai, He Yougong, and Lin Yongzhen, opened a night school at the Zheng Clan Ancestral Hall to promote resistance and salvation efforts. The night school was later expanded into Qiaohu Primary School. An anti-Japanese support team was organized at the ancestral hall, while revolutionary activities were mobilized among the masses.

The Zheng Clan Ancestral Hall is a Ming Dynasty structure built with brick and wood, covering a construction area of 1,160 m², and is currently well-preserved. The former site of Zheng Zhenteng’s Anti-Japanese Salvation Night School was designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Fuzhou City by the Fuzhou Municipal People’s Government in November 1992.
