Gaohu Revolutionary Base Village

Gaohu Revolutionary Base Village is located in Gaohu Village, Gai Shan Town, Cangshan District, Fuzhou City.

In 1938, the Chinese Communist Party established an organization in Gaohu Village. Figures such as Li Tie, Meng Qi, Wang Yiping, Lin Bai, Zheng Zhenting, Lin Yongzhen, and He Yougong carried out anti-Japanese salvation work in the village. Under the name of the Provincial War of Resistance Support Association, they founded a primary school, night school, labor union, war support team, and children’s drama troupe to engage in revolutionary activities, making it one of the “Three Red Cradles of Fuzhou,” alongside Shuanghong Primary School and Cuiwen Primary School.

Most of the teachers at Gaohu Primary School’s night school were Communist Party members. Zheng Ting, Li Tie, and Lu Maoqu all gave lectures there. Lin Bai was a frequent visitor, and because he dared to fight against landlords, local tyrants, traitors, and opium dens — and worked for the welfare of the poor — villagers called him the “Raw Rice Eater,” meaning “the teacher who fears nothing.”

In the early period after the victory of the War of Resistance, the underground Party branch in Gaohu Village led the masses in the “25% Rent Reduction” struggle, achieving a major victory. The successful experience of this struggle was quickly extended to surrounding villages such as Jiangbian, Puxia, Houguan, Yutou, Guozhai, Houban, and Luozhou. The underground Party branch seized the opportunity to identify and train activists among the masses, develop the organization, and consolidate and expand revolutionary forces. During this period, Gaohu became an important base for the CPC Min-Zhe-Jian Regional (Provincial) Committee, the Minjiang Working Committee, and the Urban Work Department.

In 1947, Lin Bai assigned Jian Yinquan to Gaohu to rebuild the Party organization, establishing the Minhou First District Special Committee of the Chinese Communist Party. It was responsible for protecting key organizations such as the Provincial Committee, the Urban Work Department, and the Fuzhou Municipal Committee that held meetings in Gaohu. Under the leadership of the Special Committee, thanks to a solid mass base and strict security measures, the safety of several important meetings held in Gaohu was ensured. Gaohu also became a strategic stronghold for many major operations of the Urban Work Department. From then until the liberation of the entire country, the people of Gaohu Village made great sacrifices to protect the underground Party and shelter its armed forces.

Gaohu Village: Gaohu Village is located on the east side of Lianjiang South Road, in the northeast of the town.

Boundaries: It borders Jiangbian Village to the east, Xianfeng Village on Lianjiang South Road to the west, Cangshan Science and Technology Park to the south, and Tuofujian Building Materials Market to the north.

Natural villages (or villager groups) within the jurisdiction: The village includes six natural villages — Sanzuo, Dacheng, Longyuan, Qiaonan, Fotin, and Qigan — and seventeen villager groups.
